The UNLV Applied Geophysics Center (AGC) was developed to enhance the knowledge of geophysical issues and hazards that affect Southern Nevada and to help mitigate the consequences of any future seismic activity.

The mission of the AGC is to promote research and teaching of geophysics for engineering applications at UNLV. Geotechnical site characterization for the arid environment and geotechnical earthquake engineering applications are emphasized. The primary objectives are to conduct sponsored research and educate engineering students in geophysics for engineering applications, through formal coursework and participation in research. An important secondary objective involves community outreach.
