Earthquakes In Southern Nevada

The Applied Geophysics Center is refining knowledge of local and regional deep geologic structure, near-surface lithology, and active faulting;and anticipating credible site-specific seismic response.

Seismic surface waves to characterize complex systems

We are researching new technologies for delineating complex stratigraphy in the shallow subsurface using seismic surface waves.

Seismic characteristics of select engineered nanomaterials in granular media

This research is part of the U.S. EPA National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL) effort to study the effects of environmental stressors such as engineered nanomaterials on the ecosystem and human health. We are investigating seismic techniques to establish defining characteristics of these environmental stressors in situ. A bench-scale testing apparatus is being developed to measure the seismic signatures of varying concentrations of engineered nanomaterials in saturated granular media.
